If you sew, probably you want to make some gifts for your dearest.

I'm really picky about sewing for somebody else out of my closest family members. I find really annoying when I make something for someone else as a gift and it is not properly appreciated. I'm snorting here while I type hehe...
If I gift something made by me, you say thank you and put away the gift like FOREVER, it doesn't count. I want a little curtsy from you and long lasting adoration (hahaha... I'm so bad!).
What I mean is if I sew something for you as a gift, I'm not only gifting the thing, I'm also giving you my time, my money, my will, my work, my soul.

As far as I pretend adoration and curtsy from what I'm giving away, I also want to give a high value to the gift I make. I hate to give a useless, ridiculous, ugly, shoddy thing. I prefer making nothing instead.
This year I'm sewing gifts only for my nephews. I made a hoodie sweatshirt for each one. I feel they will be very welcome. Probably I will sew some of these oven mitts from this pattern for some of my friends because some years ago I sewed these pot holders and all people really appreciated them. I was surprised because, you know, pot holders!. But people have been saying for long they are very well done, very well isolated, pretty, they are made from REAL cotton and linen!.
When I made these pot holders years ago I just made them as I'd like to have them in my kitchen.

Here you have some objects you could sew. These objects, according to me, could become your target handmade gifts.
The order I listed them has not relevancy at all, I listed them according my browser tabs openings.

1. An apron. I would welcome very much one of these because I don't have one.
Here in Italy aprons have been in a sort of controversy because their woman submission meaning. But what the hell, a GOOD APRON is due!. I need one, when cleaning my sewing spot and oiling my machines I need one. When cooking this tomato sauce and it spills everywhere from the pot, I need one. 3 times a week I vacuum and find all these my little pony accessories, I need an apron.
Make them from a nice material, cotton linen blends medium weight are excellent. Those Ikea upholstery cottons are cool too, avoid those too floral or nature prints, looking alike your sofa pillows or curtains is not nice. Also good recycled fabric from old garments is fine.
I like this one from Purl Soho.

2. Cloud pillow.  This one is shallow but cute. People love it. I tell you.
Time ago Liberty of London blogged about it and shared a pattern. I have it. I have made it in all ways and sizes.
If you own a super cute cotton poplin fabric and you don't know how to use it, use it for a cloud pillow. I made one of these clouds from an old pillowcase, I embroidered eyes, cheeks and mouth. We loved it. I also used this pattern for cup mats, pot holders and wall hanging decorations. I made one from a very nice deep blue fabric with fucsia polka dots as a gift for a teenager.

3. A hat. Please, not a beanie hat because it looks ugly. I know to sew a beanie is a piece of cake but being honest, who looks nice wearing a beanie?!?. Only a newborn.
I have not made one of these yet, I ordered one here and can't wait it to arrive :)
I downloaded this pattern and printed it. It looks pretty good and easy to achieve.
I also have the materials. I have several wool scraps, for the lining a nice poplin or cotton voile could fit great.
Here you find the pattern.

4. A stocking huge drawstring bag. I love wrapping paper. But I hate it as well, specially the Santa's arrive aftermath. Here at my place Santa won't wrap any present. Sorry. They will fit all in a cute huge stocking sack instead!
Yes I know, you can also wrap gifts and put them in the sack. I won't wrap a thing though.
You find a tutorial here.
I also want my people will use these sacks after Christmas so I suggest don't be too "christmassy" for the decorations, well, your choice. A nice fabric is due though, mid weight linen/cotton blend or cotton canvas, please. The touch is heaven. I'm not making these either but I ordered from a girl who also do the screen printing job!

 5. Bamboline cuscino.
5. Pillow dolls. These are really easy to achieve and you don't even need a pattern but a bunch of scraps. If you are one who goes "beyond" the project as I always do, you can add the "house" and some little accessories as a hat, a scarf, etc.
These are very fast to make, for girls I assure success, specially for little girls between 3-6 years. They are also nice gifts from your kids to girl friends as birthday gift.

Regalate solo cose belle, utili e ben fatte, mi raccomando!
Please, gift only pretty things, useful things, well made!
